Space

We can finally present Space - an innovation that will change how we perceive recorded sound. Let us explain why.
The journey began with years of studies by our founder, Bernt Bohmer. Bernt wanted to understand why recorded music and live music did not sound the same. Something was missing in the recordings, leaving the listener with an unnatural experience of the original performance. The athmospehere was absent. Bernt's research ultimately resulted in Omnio - a complete new technology for recreating spatial information. This all led up to Space, a collaboration between Omnio and Bohmer Audio. Space is able to recreate information in the audio image that has not previously been possible to reproduce. This information is referred to as spatial information. Spatial information is cruicial when striving for authenticity. But most important, the technology revives the recording and brings back the actual stage.

Spatial information is sound reproduction that occurs in the natural environment of the recording, the actual atmosphere in the music. One of the reasons to the lack of reverberant content in recordings is that stereo recordings require placing the microphone near the sound source, the artist. However, not placing the microphones close to the sound source would instead lead to the recording sounding excessively reverberant and unnatural. The lack of reverberant content and spatial information, in turn, leads to the human mind perceiving the audio as flat. This is why live music is impossible to accurately reproduce in a recording.

Another explanation why spatial information is crucial for authentic audio playback is that human minds place sounds in relation to each other as well as physical objects in order to locate the sound sources. The lack of spatial information has, however, made it impossible for our minds to separate different sound sources. Until now. Through advanced algorithms Omnio brings back the room, the stage, to the recording, helping us understand where the different sound sources are located.

Omnio and Space’s innovative process leads to the room getting a part in the sound playback, which means that we can place where the sound originates. A guitar on the right. A base to the left. The artist in the middle. Applauses in front of the artist. This is what we call True 4D Audio, and means that the music gets a spatial dimension that was previously missing. Ultimately, this creates a realistic and fair representation of the music. Space takes you back to the original recording, placing you in front of the artist. You can thank us later.
